dirk morgenstern
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Dirk Morgenstern studied cinematography with Karl-Walter Lindenlaub in the Masterclass at Hamburg University where he won prizes for his art work on the student film “Pas de Deux” (director: Florian Baxmeyer). He started his career as a cameraman, working for several years in commercials and television where he shot documentaries, music videos and various short films.
He made award-winning short “37 ohne Zwiebeln” with director André Erkau and was Director of Photography on Erkau’s cinema feature debut “Come In and Burn Out” which won the 2008 the Max Ophüls Prize for most important German Newcomer in Saarbruecken.
His work as cinematographer with director Andé F. Nebe started with a segment for the feature film “GG19”, the German government celebration of the Constitution, before moving on to “The Race”, their first international feature film collaboration.
Dirk also works as a script consultant with Michael Proehl on his feature ‘Katze im Sack’ (winner first Steps award 2004 and the Max-Ophuels prize for best screenplay 2004), ‘Kahlschlag’ and ‘The Race’ with Rowan O´Neill.
